Richard was born in 1153 in Turnbridge Castle, Kent England.1 Richard's father was Roger De Clare and his mother is Maud De Harcourt De St. Hilaire. His paternal grandfather was Richard Fitzgilbert De Clare and his paternal grandmother is Adelize De Keveloc. He had a brother and a sister, named James and Aveline.
