Jane's father was Thomas Talmadge. Also spelled Talmadge, Tallmadge, Talmash, Tolleemach. Thomas Talmadge died 1690; son of Sir Lionel Tolleemach, high sheriff. He married Lady Catherine Cromwell, daughter of Lord Cromwell. They came from England to Boston, Mass. in 1631. Made a freeman in 1634. Moved to Lynn in 1637 and to Southhampton, LongIsland, N. Y. in 1665. Jane came to New England on the "Plough" in 1631 with her father and her three brothers, William, Thomas, and Robert. It would
appear that Jane died in 1640 after the birth of her second child John. That she died prior to September 3, 1640 is shown by the fact that on"3 Sep. 1640 William Talmadge of Boston, Thomas Talmadge of Lynn, Robert Talmadge, and Richard Walker, husband of Jane Talmadge, deceased,"sent a letter to the overseers of the will of John Talmadge, brother of Thomas Talmadge and uncle of Jane, asking for the sum of money due them according to the terms of the uncle's will. (Talmadge Genealogy, by Arthur White Talmadge p. 17, which quotes from the notebook of the lawyer Thomas Lechford.)
The Talmadge clan originated from Saxon Vikings who came to Ipswich in East Anglia about 1300.
