DEATH: Lavina Elizabeth Starr was born in Erie County, PA, September 24, 1861. She moved with her parents to Nebraska in 1874 locating near Fairmont. In 1878 they moved to Clay County new Clay Center. She departed this life January 7, 1929.
DEATH: She was married to William Christian Anthes, January 2, 1879. To this union were eleven children, two of whom preceded her in death in infancy. The children living are: Charlie of Plattsmouth; Martha of Overton; Catherine and Clara of Loup City; Bessie of Perryton, Texas; Cora of Carloton, Oregon; Sidney and Floyd of Clay Center and Ezra whose address is not known. Six of the children were present for the funeral services. Mrs. Anthes is also survived by four brothers and sisters, and may other relatives and friends.
DEATH: Mrs. Anthes has been a Christian since her childhood and united with the Christian church of Clay Center during the ministry of Rev. George P. Clark. She was of the most faithful workers of the church and was never absent from any of the services unless hindered by illness. It is the testimony of one of her ministers that she was abundantly blessed with the virtue of patience and in the midst of harships and discouragements her life abounded in a steadfast faith.
DEATH: Mrs. Anthes as one of the pioneers who experienced coming into a new country that was sparsely settled and where hardships were plentiful and severe. It was a time in the development of this part of the state when the very mettle of the pioneers was tested. Through it all she lived a life of patience and trust that may well be an example to those who enjoy the privileges made possible by those who have gone before, having blazed the trail.
DEATH: Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Clay Center Wednesday afternoon, January 9, conducted by Rev. Levi R. Lundeen of Fairfield, Nebraska. Mrs. Anthes sas laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery east of Clay Center.
