LOUIS FRANCIS MOHNIKE was the second son born to Henry and Flora Mohnike, born November 19, 1893 at Sutton. He attended country schools through the 8th grade and farmed before marriage. He met LAURA MELVINA ANTHES at a church picnic and they were married August 3, 1916, at Sutton, Nebraska. Laura was born June 15, 1890, the 2nd child of David and Catherine (Richert) Anthes. After completing 8th grade she taught school.
They took their honeymoon to South Dakota on a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a side car. They made their first home on a farm near Sutton, raising wheat. After the first harvest, Louie went to Kansas City to learn the auto mechanics trade. He worked for Ford Co. in Denver, Colorado. In 1928 they sold their Denver home and went to California and Louie worked for Buick until his death in 1932.
Kathryn and Greta were born at Sutton, Nebraska and Betty and Mary Lou at Denver.
Louie died of cancer January 25, 1932 at the age of 38. Laura moved back to Westminster, Colorado, then to Denver, then in 1937 to Jacksonville, Florida. She died there on April 1, 1968 and is buried there.
