*Full name: Ada Dreyster of Horton, Middleton in Teesdale
Ada is thought to be short for Adam. The earliest known reference to the name Dresser with its variant spellings is in the Lay Subsidy Rolls for Yorkshire in the reign of Edward I. In 1301, Ada Dreyster of Patrick Brompton near Bedale, is recorded as
paying 111 shillings for the wars with
Scotland. There is no proof the Ada Dressur is his son, though suspected, but he is connected here for reference purposes. Around the same time, a Agnate le Dreyster of Middleton-in-Teesdale is recorded as paying 111 shillings tax. This name
suggests a craft origin, perhaps a dresser of skins or cloth.
