New England Historical and Genealogical Register, July 1997, Crispe Ancestry of the Fishers of Dedham:
The Fiske family of Laxfield, Suffolk, was explored in near exhaustive detail during the 1930s by the late G. Andrews Moriarty, in The Fiske Family, Register: 86; 87; 88; and 92. Among the American descendants of this family are the immigrant brothers Anthony and Joshua Fisher of Syleham, Suffolk, and Dedham, Massachusetts, whose mother was Mary, the daughter of Nicholas Fiske of Laxfield. Mary Fiske and Anthony Fisher were married in the nearby parish of Fressingfield on 16 October 1586.
Nicholas Fiske of Dennington wrote his will on 20 August 1569. He died before 28 September of the same year, when the will was proved. In this document Nicholas refers to his sons William and Amos, his daughters, Rachel, Esther, Mary, and Martha, his wife Johan, and his father in law, William Crispe of Laxfield. It was Moriarty's belief that Johan was probably the second wife of Nicholas Fiske, based apparently on this passage in
William Crispe was born about 1491, probably at Laxfield. He died between 20 November 1552, when he wrote his will, and 19 January 1552/3, when it was proved. William married Anne Godbold, who died between 23 January and 17 March 1553/4, the dates her will was written and probated. For Anne's ancestry, see "The Godbold Ancestry of the Fisher and Fiske Families of Early New England".
William purchased a meadow in Laxfield called Plummes Brook from his brother John Crispe of the Rookes. He was assessed L5 in the subsidy of 1524. William's will indicates he was a turner by profession.
From the will of William Crispe, the elder, turner, dated 20 November 1552, proved 19 January 1552/3;
