Served as sheriff of Somerset & Dorset 1211; joined the barons against
King John and his lands in 4 cos. were confiscated & given to Hugh, his
son-in-law & to Thomas Basset, his father-in-law. He was excom. by the
Pope as he became one of the Sureties of the Magna Charta
