Beauchamp, Richard. Earl of Warwick. 1382-1439. English soldier. Son of
Thomas de Beauchamp. Defeated Owen Glendower (1403); fought Percys for
Henry IV at Shrewsbury (1403); visited Holy Land (1408); named captain of
Calais (1414); suppressed Lollard uprising (1414); represented Henry V at
Council of Constance (1414); took part in Henry V' s French campaigns
(1417-22), for which he was awarded Aumale (1419); had charge of
education of Henry VI (1428-36). Defeated French at Beauvais (1431);
lieutenant of France and Normandy (1437).
