The first son of of Robert Turstain, was Baron of Briquebec in 943, and his grandson William, Baron of Briquebec, was the first to take the name of Bertrand, from whom descended the Russell family of England, Dukes of Bedford.
In the rebellion of Rioulf of St. Savour angainst Duke William Longsword, in 933, Baron of Briquebec is metioned by Wace as one of the three Barons who alone remained faithful to the Duke, by rendering him military service at the seige of Rouen; and on the assissination of that Prince he was appointed by the barons of Normandy and Bretagny one of the three guardians to his young son, the Duke Robert, at a crisis which required a rare union of courage , firmness and discretion, and fulfilled his trust during that long and troubling minority with the reputation to himself and and advantage to his country. It was in the time of Anslech that the Castle of Briquebec was first erected, now one of the most beautiful and picturesque ruins in La Manche.
Anslech lived to witness the accession of Duke Richard II.
