Oak in less than two years, where he bought a general store and resumed
farming and haying. In 1925 he returned to Florida for Martha's health,

ID: I07428
Name: Mary Standridge
Sex: F
Birth: 1798 in Georgia
Death: 1876 in Indian Territory
Note:
Mary is a daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth STandridge.
Her daughter, ELizabeth Jones Hampton, states in the Reenrollment to the
Cherokee Nation that her mother was Mary Standridge.
She was born in the correct location as to where the Standridges
were. She uses the names of the family in naming her children.
She lives near Rhoda Blevins. She was in Illinois at the time the
STandridge family was there.
James Jones is probably a brother to John Jones who lives in Newton
County, Ar. 1850 near the standridges.
In 1850, there is an Adaline Jackson and Martin Jackson with the family.
In 1860, Adaline is using the name Jones. I do not think she is Mary's
child perhaps a grandchild.
I found these Jones in Carroll Co. in 1840, no James. He did pay taxes
there in the 1830s. He probably spent some of his time in the Indian
Territory of Ok. Most of his family finally moved to Delaware District,
Indian Territory. Mary Standridge Jones died there.

1. Alexander and Elizabeth had daughters that we may have omitted. They
lived in the large Lawrence County, Arkansas, part of the Arkansas
Cherokee Nation, before it was divided into smaller counties including
Newton and Pope.
1. The Alexander Standridge family probably removed from Pickens County,
South Carolina, to Franklin County, Tennessee, to Marion County,
Tennessee, to Union County, Illinois and through Missouri to Carroll
County, Arkansas finally settling on Richland Creek in Newton County,
Arkansas.
3. While living in Tennessee, Alexander and Elizabeth attended church
where Samuel McBee preached. Samuel married Eleanor Standridge, daughter
of James and Mary "Polly" (Wallace) Standridge, Jr. indicating these two
Standridge families were very closely related. C. L Boyd believes they
could be brothers although of different mothers according to information

ID: I00080
Name: Martin Standridge 1
Sex: M
Birth: 12 OCT 1806 in Georgia 1
Death: AFT. 1880 in Richland Creek, Arkansas 1
Note:
From C. L. Boyd's book, Standridge: Martin Standridge was born Oct. 12,
1806 in Georgia. He died after 1880 on Richland Creek in Newton Co. AR.
He is buried in Richland Cemetery near Pelsor, Ar. He has no marker.
Fred Ross stated that Martin's wife was Rosie Meek, but I (C. L.) believe
he confused Martin Standridge and Martin Ross. Jesse Waits thought
Martin Standridge was married to a Branch. This can not be proved
either. The family Bible lists Martin's wife only as Katherine
Standridge. Martin and Katherine were listed in the 1840 Carroll Co. AR.
census. Then they are listed in the Newton Co. Ar. censuses for 1850,
1860, 1870, and 1880. Katherine Standridge was born Sept. 15, 1805 and
is said to haved to be 107 years old. She is also buried at Richland
Cemetery. Family legend says that the family decided to move from
Carroll Co. Ar. to Texas in about 1836. When they arrived on Richland
Creek Newton Co. Ar., game was so plentiful that they settled there.
Some of the family did move on to Texas as some of the kids are born in
Texas the census says. The Standridge men were great bear hunters and
most supplemented their income with whiskey making. This family went
into Union County and Jackson County Illinois when moving to AR. This
was also the route of many Cherokee Indians. No family tie has been made
to Indians; but legend passed down is that many of the Standridge men
married Indian women.

Rhoda
Standridge
ID: I02072
Name: Rhoda Standridge
Sex: F
Birth: 1807 in Georgia
Death: BEF. 1873 in Long Creek area of Carroll County, Ar.
Note:
Rhoda Sandridge married Squire Blevins. Isham Martin's death certificate
says his
mother was Rhoda Standridge and his father was Squire Blevins.
Rhoda says she was born in Ga where the Standridges were at the time
Martin and Samuel James were born. Squire Black Blevins is spoken of in
Goodspeeds History of Carroll County. He is called Black to distinguish
him from Squire White Blevins who is also there. In 1850 Carroll County,
Ar. census there is a Sarah M. Gregg living with the Blevins family. She
may be an older daughter. There is a young child in the homeThomas Bird
age 3. Sarah M. Blevins married second to her cousin, William Jones.
In the Elizabeth Hampton testemony she states that Sallie Jones was a
white
woman.
Note:
Many researchers think that Squire Black Blevins is a son of Isham
Blevins.
If this is correct, I think Margaret Blevins STandridge is his daughter.
Most
researchers believe that Squire White Blevins is a son of Richard. Also,
they
speculate that Isham and Richard are brothers. Squire White Blevins is
the
person on the immigration rolls in Nickajack, Alabama with Richard. He is
the Squire Blevins in Cape Gir. Mo in 1830. Researchers think his mother
is Elizabeth Arrington, a white woman. Richard Blevins married Mary
Jones and
Elizabeth Jones after Elizabeth Arrington. Mary and Elizabeth Jones were
sisters
of James, John, Drewry, and David Jones. Her were half breed Cherokee
women.
Note:
A point I strongly believe is that Charles Blevins and James Blevins who
marry
daughters of Squire Black Blevins are cousins to their wives. I do not
know their
fathers. Charles mother is Elizabeth Blevins.
Note:
The Blevins lived in the Long Creek area of Carroll Co. AR. near Boone
County and also in the upper part of Carroll Co. I think probably
Northeast of the community called Denver, AR. I think they lived out
there lives here.
Squire and Rhoda may have more children who I do not have listed. PLEASE

Along toward the end of the Civil War, Bushwhackers raided John

event occured in late January or early Feb. 1865. Alonzo Standridge siad
that the reason they were killed was because John had five or six hundred
dollars hid and woul dnot tell where it was hidden. Alonzo also said it
happened about daybreak. John and the two boys ran out to see what was
disturbing the chickens. Nancy told that her mother (Betsey) picked up
Wash and carried him back into the house after he was shot through the
neck. All three Standridge men are buried in Richland Cemetery in the

Subject: RE: Thomas Jones
Note: Hi Betty,
Note:
I was on the Thomas Jones reservation today. Since I didn't have my map
with me, I don't know exactly where it was. Talked to a man who will
show me where all the springs are in the area. With my map and his
knowledge of the area I can probably pin point with a great deal of
accuracy where Thomas Jones lived. The reservations were given with the
place where the person lived in as near the center [of the reservation]
as possible. Of course the person lived near a spring because who wanted
to carry water for any great distance. This is in a valley called Kings
Cove after William King who bought the reservation from his
father-in-law, William Gains, who bought it from Thomas Jones. There is
a Jones Creek in Kings Cove. The man I met today said there was a spring
at the head of Jones Creek. I suspect that is where Thomas Jones lived
... at this spring. This man, and I've forgotten his name, only is at
his house on the weekends. He lives in Chattanooga but was raised in
this area. This will be his retirement home. It is at the deadend of a
gravel road in Tanyard Hollow [Holler] off Kings Cove. This is a
beautiful place and so clean looking. I told him it would probably be
fall after the snakes went in before I came back. I will have my
camera. I'm very excited about this.
Note:
I know where Thomas and William Jones reservations were. All I know
about James Jones reservation is that it lay right next to the Tennessee
River but where I don't know. It is not on the maps. But I would guess
it was near Thomas and William. Now Drury Jones reservation appears to
be in Marion Co, TN. I just thought about this today after going up
Kings Cove. The head of Kings Cove is in Marion Co, TN. So, I'm
wondering if his reservation was there. It may have also been elsewhere
in Marion Co, TN. There is a big mountain on one side of Kings Cove that
pretty much separates AL from TN. It is a wide mountain too.
Note:
Thanks for the pulling together of evidence. Some of it I didn't exactly
remember that I knew. Let me get some of it clear in my mind and add to
what you sent.

Case # 97, Benjamin Brackett VS Cherokee Nation
Petitioned for his rights as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation
Statment of Francis Latta: I will be ninty six years old the 5th of next
month. I was well aquainted with John Wilkerson in the Old Cherokee
Nation. He was regarded as a Cherokee citizen. I knew his mother well and
she belonged to the Wolf Clan. It has been about seventy five years ago
that I got aquainted with John Wilkerson. John and his mother talked the
Cherokee language. His mother spoke broken English. John lived when I
first got aquainted with him near Maker Jack Cove(probably Nick A Jack)on
the Tennessee River. John had seven children by my sister and his other
wife had five. He had a first wife in South Carolina and two after he
came to the Old Cherokee Nation, at least he said he did. He had sons
named Uriah and William Wilkerson. Nellie Wilkerson was said to be a
sister to Uriah and William. William, Uriah and Nellie are children by
the South Carolina wife. Wilkersons Cherokee wife named Cootiah by whom
he had five childeren named Aaron, Dick, George, James and John. John
Wilkersons
children by my sister were named Hiram, Jefferson, Lewis, Lydia, Tom,
George and Linda.
JOhn also married Coo ta yah. She was married to his brother Edward too.
I think Edward died.
Coo-ta -ya was living in Tennessee in 1815. In 1842 Coo-ta-ya filed claim
in GoingSnake Dist., Indian Territory. She married John Wilkerson 2nd time
Note:
note found
Coo'tire, mother of Aaron and Dick Wilkerson,
mixedblood sons of Edward and John Wilkerson of tennessee" for the sons
to be mixedblood one parent must be white.
Cherokee Claim of Jessie w. Bushyhead #5226 states that Coo-ta-ya's first
husband was Edward and her second was John
Wilkerson. Also in Star's book in states that Edward Wilkerson was white
and in one of the Claims I found reference to the
fact that John Wilkerson, coo-ta-ya's second husband was brother to her
first husband Edward.

Birth: 6 MAR 1782 in Edgefield Co, SC
Death: 1840-1850 in Coffee Co., Alabama
Note:
What is the evidence for Mary Clackler being the wife of Robert Garrett?
Prior to this research, we knew that our Robert Garrett's wife's name was
Mary, and that she was born March 6, 1782. Who were her parents? What
proof was there that Mary Clackler was Robert's wife?
A record was found in the book, Edgefield County South Carolina Records,
that a John Clackler named his daughter, Mary Garrett, in his 1814 will
which was written in Edgefield Co., South Carolina.
Another abstract indicated that John Clackler had land bordering
"Garretts".
A study of the other Garretts in Edgefield did not allow for a
Clackler/Garrett marriage.
A check with the 1790 Edgefield census found a John Clackler (Mary's
father) listed in the general area of John Garrett, father of our Robert,
and the Callihams. The 1810 census found Clackler near Morris Calliham,
John Garrett's wife Fanny's brother. 1820 census found Clackler's widow,
Mary, still near Morris and in the John Garrett neighborhood. All of
these would have been in the same area.
I found the abstract of this John Clackler's will, written in Edgefield
in 1814, in which he named his daughters, Sarah Rice, Mary Garrett,
Margaret Jones, Elizabeth Butler, and joy of joys - Sophia Roper. That
Sophia did it for me, and I knew we had our Mary's parents! We all know
that our Robert and Mary named one of their daughter's Sophronia and she
was called Sophia. I had previously told Gloria that if we ever found
Mary's parents, we'd probably find a Sophia, and here it was!
Mary's grandmother was named Sarah (accounting for our Robert's daughter,
Sarah Annie).
Mary has been reported to be born in Pennsylvania. We can see from the
research that the Clacklers, her parents, never lived in Pennsylvania,
and their daughter, Mary Clackler, wife of our Robert Garrett, would have
been born in South Carolina rather than Pennsylvania, as some of her
children reported in census records. (Just as many said she was born in
South Carolina). However, her grandparents Fudge were born in
Pennsylvania, which would have led to the confusion.
Mary was noted by age in the 1830 and 1840 census but was dead when
Robert's second wife, Rebecca was listed by name in the 1850 census, so
Mary's death occurred between 1840 and Robert's 2nd marriage.

Birth: 3 FEB 1850 in Iowa
Death: 2 DEC 1929 in Proctor, OK
Note: John was married to Susan Metcalf Durham which is proved by a
marriage certificate in Franklin County Arkansas. he was 18 when he
married Susan and she was 24 years of age. They evidently had three
children, Elmer, Zader, and Delilah which we found on the 1880 census of
Benton County, Arkansas. We did not find them listed with John and Nancy
on the 1900 census of the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. (Paul Dwinelle)
This maybe correct but I knew Elmer(my grandfather) and according to what
I have been told his sister were Alice and Anna. (Sherlyn Greaves)

Note:
New Kent and King and Queen Counties of Virginia are considered burned
bounties, because their records suffered considerable damage at several
points in their history, from fire, not once, but several times. Source:
Vital Records of Burned Counties, 1680-1860, by Theresa Fisher
Because there are so few official records still in existence today, to
trace a family line in this section of Virginia is especially difficult.
Nevertheless, it is possible to project a reasonable conclusion based on
the combination of circumstances and what few records are available. It
should be remembered, however, that for some of this, at least, there
will be no proof, only secondary material.

John Hodson and John Garratt 300 acres
To all ye whereas ye now know you that I the said Edward Diggs Esq. do
give and grant unto John Hodson and John Garratt three hundred acres of
land lyeing and being in the county of New Kent and on the North East
side of Mottopony River bounded as followeth (viz) from a marked red oake
on the Southernmost corner of Thomas
Saunders his land with a South, South East line unto Arakeyaco Swamp,
thence with Arakeyaco Samp to a line of marked trees running North West
by West unto the other corner of Saunders his land being a poplar in a
branch of Arakeyaco Creek thence to the place it began with his Saunders
his line of marked trees. The said land being due unto the John Hodson
and John Garratt by and for their transportation of six persons into this
Colony so to have and the hold & yielding and paying to which payment is
to be made. Dated the sixth of June 1655
Cavaliers and Pioneers, p. 310; Patent Bk. #3, p. 355
June 9, 1658:
The above land of John Garrett and John Hudson was granted to Nathaniell
Bacon (cousin of the rebel), assigned by Hudson unto John Bull & by Bull
& Garrett unto Bacon.
Cavaliers and Pioneers, p. 381, Patent Bk., 4, p. 237
March 16, 1663/4
Peter Ware, Jr. and John Garrett were listed as headrights (among sixty)
by George Bryar and Richard Lawrence or Lawson who received 3000 acres in
Rappahannock Co. adjacent to Col. More Fauntleroy.
(Note: This is significant to me only because Henry Ware and John Garrett
are named together. The date does not suggest their arrival in the
colonies. Since several people claimed to have brought in John Garrett, I
am unsure on who did).

1664, from the Ancestral File:
There is no proof that John was born in Leichestershire, England, so I am
not including the birth data from below in my database. There is evidence
from another researcher that the John Garrett born on this date in
Leichestershire never came to America.

My father was a very good dad and husband. He was born and raised in
Castleberry, Alabama. He left Castleberry to work at the tire and rubber
company owned by Oscar Skinner in Springfield, Ohio some time in the mid
1930s. Mt dad's first cousin, Everett Marshall Garrett was also working
at the rubber company and was married to Margaret Lois Douglas. My dad
met her younger sister, Martha Geraldine Douglas at their home and they
were married in 1938. After the rubber company closed, they stayed in
Springfield. My dad worked several years at the Thompson Grinder company.
He left there to work at Dayton Tire & Rubber Company in Dayton, Ohio
from July 27, 1950 until his retirement in May of 1975. We moved to
Dayton in April, 1953.
During the fall or winter of 1989 he became ill with bronchitus. After
being admitted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio, it was discovered
he had suffered a heart attack some months prior to that and was not
aware of it. He was given up to two years to live. He only made it for 9

After

ID: I01656
Name: William WIGGINS
Sex: M
Birth: 1755 in Johnson County (Duplin County), North Carolina
Death: 6 JUN 1819 in Monroeville, AL
Note:
William Wiggins served in the Revolutionary War. On May 5, 1984, the
Hunt's Spring Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution held a ceremony for the dedication of marker at his grave. He
is buried, along with his wife, at the Wiggins Cemetery located in Mexia
off Highway 84, 4 miles from Monroeville. The program states:
" William Wiggins served in North Carolina's 10th Regiment, commanded by
Col. Abe Sheppard. He enlisted in Coleman's Company of the N.C. line for
12 months and served in the Militia of the District of Wilmington in Lt.
Wilkerson's Company from 17 Oct 1781 to 19 Apr 1782. His place of
residence during the Revolution was Duplin County, North Carolina.
He was married to the former Elizabeth Cooper (1759-1825). She was the
daughter of Fleet Cooper, Sr. and Margaret (Coor) Cooper of
Duplin/Sampson Counties, North Carolina."
I have a copy of the program. The invocation and benediction was given by
Reverand Mike Wiggins. Introduction of descendants of William Wiggins was
by Lucy Wiggins Colson, Chpater Historian, and a biographical sketh was
given by Lucy Wiggins Colson.
"Raised his family on Cedar Creek and owned property on Limestone Creek.
This property was in Johnston co. at the time of his birth, later was in
Duplin co., and by the time of him raising his family was in Sampson co.
About 1750 there were 4 adult male Wiggins (so far) living on Cedar Creek
and Limestone Creek. One was George Wiggins, Sr. (that I first found).
Later William witnesses a deed for George Wiggins, Jr. (thus a
connection). There was also an Elihu Wiggins, Elijah Wiggins, and William
Wiggins. Our William had sons with all three names. There also may have
been an Elisha Wiggins.
There was also a Barty and Southy Fischer, who had land transactions with
these Wiggins candidates. a Southy Fischer turns up in Monroe County in
1825 with an interest in the settlement of William Wiggins estate tht had
not been settled in Sampson county, NC.
On March 30, 1758 there was an estate inventory returned by Sarah Wiggins
for her deceased husband, Richard Wiggins of Duplin County, NC. This is a
possible candidate for our William's grandfather." (from e-mail received
5/29/2000 from Lucy Wiggins Colson (LWC1211@@aol.com)).
