"My research shows Wiley James Sharbutt born 1810, Spartanburg, NC to
Warner  Sharbutt who was born in 1780 in Rowan County, SC.  Samuel
Sharbutt, Jr. married to Sarah Sharbutt were Wiley's parents.  Samuel
Sharbutt, Jr. was born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland as was his
father, Samuel Sharbutt, Sr. I have never heard anything about a Native
American Connection in the Sharbutt line.  In my research, I was very
surprised to find Sharbutts in the United States at the time of the
Revolution.  I actually found Samuel and Samuel, Jr. in the Rowan County,
North Carolina area in the first census, 1790.  I researched and wrote an
essay in an American History Class on the Scots-Irish immigration
patterns along what was called the Philadelphia Wagon Trail.  The
Sharbutt migration appeared to follow that pattern beginning in the
western regions of the Carolinas, proceeding from North to South and then
into Georgia and Alabama.  The first Sharbutt I located was in the
marriage records of Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1697." by Ray
Sharbutt on 19 Dec 2002.
Georgia: Putnam County Residents, Fortunate Drawers of the 1832 Lottery.
This lottery was the original Cherokee County, GA lottery the act is
dated  Dec. 3, 1832, Cherokee County is located in the Northwest part of
the state.  In later years Cherokee was split into Cass, Cherokee, Cobb,
Floyd Forsythe,  Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding and Union. Cass was
later named Bartow. It depended on your status as to how many times your
name went into the drawing.
