Will filed the 12th day of May 1915, Book A page 209-212. He was at the
time of death was an inhabitant of this County. He departed this life at
Live Oak on or about the 23rd day of April 1915. I give and devise and
bequeath to my beloved wife,Nancy L. Rhodes, for and during her lifetime
all my property of every description.............. I give and devise and
bequeath to my daughter Alice Spradley the sum of $750 dollars in cash to
be paid to her by my executor. My will further is that my executor
hereinafter named pay to the 3 children of my deceased daughter,Carrie
Morris - Joe C.Morris, John Maynard Morris and Joe C. Morris; the sun of
$500 dollars each on the arrival of each at the age of 21 years,provided
that said children shall continue to live at my home with my 2 single
daughters, Pearl Rhodes and Lola Rhodes,if should either of said children
fail to live with my 2 said daughters,the amount bequeathed to them shall
not be paid............. All the rest and residue of my estate real
personal and mixed of which I shall die be equally divided between my 2
daughters, Pearl and Lola Rhodes.
Rhodes-On Friday last while sitting on his front gallery at home near
Live Oak, this county, John D. Rhodes died from heart failure. He was
stricken and when his grandson who was seated near him reached him he was
breathing his last breath. Deceased had been in poor health for several
years and was looking for the messenger of death to come at any time. He
was a member of the Crenshaw
County School Board when he died. Deceased had long been a member of the
Methodist Church and was one of the best citizens of the county. He left
surviving three daughters, Mrs. John Spradley of Patsburg and Misses Lola
and Pearl Rhodes who lived with him. His remains were interred Saturday
at Live Oak Cemetery. His long life of 71 years. Rev. J.A. Whitsett of
Rutledge and Rev. G. W. Jones of Patsburg officiating. Crenshaw County
