Fay Staples Newman 
Fay Staples was born on July 26th, 1890 in AL.1 She died at the age of 43 on October 8th, 1933 in Talladega Co., AL. She was buried in Sears Chapel Cemetery, located about a mile north of Rockford, AL..1 1 General Notes

Fay Staples Newman was a graduate of Judson College, Marion, Alabama.
During her first years of college, records show that she studied rhetoric
and classics, Latin, math, chorus and sight singing, drawing, painting,
and house keeping. Upon graduation, she became the Home Demonstration
Agent in Coosa Co., AL, for four years. Afterwards, she taught school,
was homemaker and was very active in both the Mt. Olive and Wetumpka
communties. Overall, she was very talented, energetic, and beloved lady.
On 14 Feb 1925, Fay's sister, Sara (Mrs. W. C. Oates) died leaving a
baby, William Wyatt Oates, three hours old; and a little girl, Ruby
Maxine Oates, fifteen months old. Vernie and Fay cared for the children
until 30 Aug 1932, when they let them to live with their father at
Greenville, SC.
Fay died on 8 Oct 1933, having never gotten over the death of John Paul.
Bill was only nine years old at the time.
Fay Staples and Vernie May were married in a religious ceremony on November 25th, 1923 in Birmingham, AL.1 They had two sons named William Vernie and John Paul.

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Thompson, Birmingham, Alabama, at six
o'clock Sunday P. M., Nov. 25, 1923 Vernie McEwen was married to Fay
Stables Newman, daughter of William Isaiah and Ann Staples Newman of
Goodwater, AL, Rt 3 (Mt. Pleasant) Rev. E. B. Gatlin, pastor of Fairfield
Baptist Church, officiated.
