To Elizabeth Jane Hickey Baker from her cousin J. J. Rockett,
Claysville, Al, Apr the 25th 1846. {This is in Marshall Co., AL, DDH}
Dear Cousin,
I received your kind letter this morning which afforded me more than
usual pleasure. How are you and your family? I can say to you, that your
letter found us all in good health and I hop mine will do the same. David
Baker and family are well and also William Baker and family. David Baker
has got another fine son and he is a fine fellow. He only weighs 12 lb
when he was born. His name is Thomas. Jane Burmin has come down to spend
the summer with us which will be very agreeable for she is a fine girl.
Brother Bob is going to school in Blountsville. He has not been home in 2
months but we look for him home in about six weeks. Uncle David Rocketts
family is well but I have not seen one of them in some time. Uncle Baker
has gone to TN but they are --- ---- --- home any day but you know he is
-----------. Mary Carter has been down ----------- was married and ------
to be very well------- she says she would not take anything for her boy.
Jane give Emily and Calvin my complements. Tell them that I wish to be
remembered by them. Tell your mother ------- for me that her mother sends
her love to her and also to you. Jane kiss little Bet for me for I want
to see her so bad I don't know what to do. Write to me Jane and tell me
all about how you and Bet is getting along and come to see us as soon as
you can. Give my love to your Mother and also to your Father and all your
family. Jane answer this letter
immediately so nothing ------ --- -------. I remain your affectionate
cousin until death.
