"Mr. and Mrs. Green came to the Mt. Nebo Community in 1875. They came
from Hico, Louisiana, but apparently had settled there for only a short
while. Originally, they came from Alabama. Mr. Green, then living in
South Carolina, was engaged to marry Martha Wilson when he went to the
Civil War. When he returned, he had three of his fingers shot off. He
offered to release her from the engagement, but she did not agree. It was
he who gave the land for the Church and Cemetery. Later, their son,
William David, better know as Billy, made this official. The deed is
recorded in the Union Parish Court house in Farmerville." (1) (1) From a
