him as William "August Jr".
He was a captain and provost marshall at Greensboro Overseas Replacement
Deport during World War II. Member of the American Legion and an
Episcopalian.
He was in the US Navy from 1920 to 1923. In Navy he was on the Yangtze
River Patrol in China. I have photos from his time in the Navy. Honorable
Discharge, Seaman 1st Class.
Guard in U.S. Reformatory in Chillicothe, Ohio from 1930 to 1930,
transferred to Federal Prison Camp in Camp Dix, New Jersey, where he was
acting Lieutenant, supervising Railroad construction, maintenance of
Rifel Range, from 1930-31. Transferred to Fed Reformatory in Petersburg,
VA, where he was a Lieutenant from 1931-32. Had a civil service status of
CU9, and was Warden at the Fed Ref. Member of Elk #237 in Petersburg.
Member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Petersburg.
In army in 1943 in Greensboro, NC and then a Captain and again in 1944. I
have a medical slip ordering an x-ray for "possible early arthritis in
left hip" from 1944. Listed as aged 40 in 1944 (supports born in 1904 vs
1902). Some records list 1902, others 1904 for dob.
