Loyd's name is spelled with only the one "L". He didn't like having two
"L's" because it was more trouble to write. He never could remember to
write the second "L", Sybil said.
Loyd was active in the Masons, and was a Past Patron of Eastern
Star. Sybil is a Past Matron in Eastern Star, and a Past Mother Advisor
of Rainbow Girls. She and Loyd did a lot with the Rainbow Girls, taking
them on hayrides, etc. They both really enjoyed their associations with
these groups.
Loyd worked in sales until they moved to Whitney in 1962. There
they owned a one-stop grocery store (bait, tackle, gas, groceries) for
five years before Loyd "retired". Retirement didn't work for him at that
time, so they ran another small store in Whitney for about three years.
After they sold the store, he worked for the Corps of Engineers for about
two years, helping at the lake.
