John le Strange, possessed the lordships of Nesse and Chesewurdine or Cheswardine, in the 11th of King John (1210), which he had by gift from Henry II, and also enjoyed the Manor of Wrockwurdine, which his brother Hamon formerly had. He was Governor of the Castle of Carracove in Wales and Sheriff of the County of Salop, and also the County of Stafford, and in the 3rd of Henry III (1216-1272) he obtained the King's precept for aid to rebuild part of his castle at Knockyn and to repair the rest of it.
