Stourton - Observations: The Saxon acestor, Botolph, who heads the College of Arms pedigree of the Stourtons printed by Hoare, and adopted by Collins and Edmondson, was long ago disposed of by Round; who pointed out that the tenant of Stourton in 1086 under Walter de Douai was a Frenchman named Ralph. The pedigree is the sole known authority for many of the steps in the succession; and for all of the marriages, until the late 14th century. [Complete Peerage II/1:296]
