Erik, having disposed of Sigrid, took for a second wife Oda, the daughter of Jarl Hakan of Norway. Later, we are told, Erik married Gunnhild, a daughter of Mieszko of Poland, and a sister to Boleslav I, Poland's first king. Most historians express som uncertainty about Erik's other wives, but Lagerkvist assures us that there is no doubt about Erik's marriage to Gunnhild.
According to the old tales, Erik fell ill and died precisely ten years after the battle of Syrisvall [985]. He was buried in a mound at Uppsala and his son Olof Skotkonung succeeded to the throne. His widow Gunnhild was given in marriage to this old rival, Sven Forkbeard; and Sven returned from exile and regained the Danish throne. [Royal Families of Medieval Scandinavia, Flanders, & Kiev]
