Hugh de was born before 1191 in Chelsworth, Cosford, Suffolk, England. He died before August 25th, 1244 in Buckenham Tofts, Swaffham, Norfolk, England.General Notes
SIR HUGH DE PLAIZ, son and heir, was in possession of the family property in Oxfordshire in 1212. He rebelled against King John in 1215; but he returned to his allegiance, and had order, as a knight of Earl Warenne, for return of his forfeited lands, June 1217. In 1235 he was one of four Justices appointed for the eyre in Surrey, Kent, Hants and Sussex. He is probably the Hugh to whom Blomefield attributes the foundation of Bromehill Priory in Weeting.
He married, 1stly, Philippe, 3rd daughter of Richard DE MONTFICHET, of Stanstead Mountfitchet, Essex, and, in her issue, coheir of her brother Richard. He married, 2ndly, Beatrice, one of the 5 daughters and coheirs of Stephen DE TURNHAM, and relict successivtly of Ralph DE FAY and Hugh DE NEVILL of Essex. From her he was divorced in or about 1240. He married, 3rdly, Alice (-----). He died before 18 August 1244. His widow was living in 1275. [Complete Peerage X:537-8, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
