The Paynels of Bampton, Devon, were almost certainly a younger branch of the Paynels of Dudley. They were descended from William Paynel who acquired the honor of Bampton by marriage with Juliane, daughter of Robert de Bampton, son of Walter or Walcelin de Douai, by his wife Emma. The inheritance eventually passed to John de Cogan. [Complete Peerage X:321]
They had a son named Fulk.
