In 1086 Roger de Moles was undertenant of Baldwin FitzGilbert C. Brionne, Sheriff of Devon. Meules was the caput of Baldwin's Norman barony, whence he himself was often known as Baldwin de Meulles. Roger de Moles may well have been the ancestor of the later family of Moels, of which an account is given in The Complete Peerage, new edition, vol ix, p. 1. [Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families]
