JOHN MAUTRAVERS, whom we suppose to be son and heir of John abovenamed, stands at the head of the ascertained pedigree. In 1172 he fined to have seisin of his land and 4 knights' fees in Dorset, and held a knight's fee in Berks. By his ist wife, Alice, daughter and coheir of Roger FITZGEOFFREY, he had issue Walter and John; by his second wife, Alice DE BENDEVILLE, Thomas and William.
