Settlers of N. E." by Savage, vol 2, under James: Joseph, Fairfield 1674, d. bef Jan. 1688, leav. wid. Mary, and d. Mary, wh. m. Nathan Adams. In Torrey's "New England Marriages Prior to 1700", James, Joseph (-1687) & Mary (Dickerson) (1st child b. 5 Mar 1666, b. 1665?; Fairfield, Ct. It says "all that is known of Joseph James from records is that he rented a farm in Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut, for several years prior to 1678 from his wife's mother. He had a grant of land from the town of Fairfield Jan 1680. He must have had a very severe disabling war injury as the record says that in Oct 1679, the Connecticut Assembly granted him 50 shillings per annum because of disablement."
