John de was born about 1205 in Shirland, Derby, England.  John de's father was Henry de Grey and his mother was Isabel de Bardolf.  His paternal grandfather was Richard de Grey; his maternal grandparents were William de Hugh Bardolf and Isabel Aquillon. He had eight brothers and a sister, named Richard de, William de, Robert de, Walter de, Henry de, Richard de, William de, Henry de and Joan de.  He died before March 18th, 1265.
