Hans acquired 124 acres of land through agents John Herr and Martin Kendig in 1730, " about one mile due southwest from the present village of New Providence, near Big Beaver Creek." Hans Jacob died during the winter of 1754-55 in (then) Martic Twp. his will, written June 24, 1754, and affirmed April 17,1755, indicates that he was a weaver. He bequeathed to his wife, Barbara, the use of his present dwelling house and all firewood she would need and which should be already cut and carried to her by the children.
The size of the legacy indicates that he was reasonably prosperous. The rest of the inheritance was to be shared equally by the four children listed: John, Dietrich, Abraham and Ann; whereas children of Jacob and Ann " now in Germany" would receive only 5 shillings each. Widow Barbara, son John, and friend Ulrich Yorty were appointed as executors.
