He carried all his money (with which to pay passage, upon arrival in America), in coins, in a waist belt. Enroute, he was swept overboard, by a large wave, and because of the weight of all the coins, he never resurfaced. His destitute widow took a job, as house keeper for the Capt, and his family, to pay the debt of passage, for she and her son.
The son later married the Cpt's daughter.
