Richard Petley was settled at Downe, Kent, in the reign of Henry III
(1216-1272). He bore for his arms: Argent, two bends engrailed sable and
a canton sable. Crest: A cubit arm in armour erect proper, garnished or,
grasping a scimitar by the blade argent, hilted of the second.
