Note: Sally Hemming was one of Jefferson's many slaves. She was the daughter of one of Jefferson's father in law's slaves. She was with him during his five years in France. Although some still doubt this relationship, there is 200 years of oral history passed down in the descendants of the offspring. Jefferson himself never denied the relationship. He had made a promise to his wife on her deathbed that he would never remarry (at HER request), which in my opinion severely frustrated his quest for his desire for love.
