George Canby, probably born about 1545, was a church warden in
Eckington in Derbyshire. This county adjoined the southwest of Yorkshire
in 1601. He was a trustee at Doncaster in 1607 for the education of a
child. After his death, his widow Janet Canby, remarried. As Janet
Briggs, her will was recorded on September 25, 1629. The document set
forth that she was from Sykehouse, north of Thorne and the names of her
children. The children of George and Janet Canby were:

Thomas Canby;
William Canby;
George Canby; and
Ann Canby
