(5) 1649: Col. Henry Norwood, a Cavalier officer, In his account of his voyage
to VA, Col. Norwood says, "It fell out at that time that Capt. Ralph Wormeley
(of his Majesty's Council) had guests in his house feasting and carousing, that
were lately come from England, and most of them my intimate acquaintance. Using
the common freedom of the country, I thrust myself amongst Capt. Wormeley's
guests, and had a kind reception from them all, which answered (if not
exceeded my expectations). Sir Thomas Lunsford, Sir Philip Honywood, Sir
Henry Chicheley, and Col. Hammond were the persons I met there, and enjoyed
that night with very good cheer."
(5) 1652, 20 Nov: A deed of settlement between Sir Henry Chichley, his wife
Agatha, and her two sons Ralph and William Wormeley, Lancaster Co., VA, made
Capt. William Brocas, Mr. William Eltonhead and Mr. Rowland Burnham feoffees in
trust for the execution of the settlement. The deed was renewed in Sep 1654 by
Chichley and his wife for the benefit of Ralph Wormeley alone, William
Wormeley having died.
(2) 1659, Nov: Sir Hen. Chichley qt. was assessed for 37 titheables on the list
of Mr. Potter, Lancaster Co., VA.
(3a) 1666, 29 Jan: A General Vestry meeting of Christ Church was held at the
house of Sir Henry Chichley (Rosegill). It was agreed "that ye two parishes
formerly call Lancaster and Peanckatanck from hense forth be united as one
and called Christ Church Parish."
(4) 1668: Sr. Hen. Chichley & qrt. assessed for 48 titheables, southside of
Lancaster Co., VA. This was the southside of the Rappahannock River, the part
of Lancaster Co. that was cut off to form Middlesex Co. the following year.
(5) Lancaster Co., VA indenture between Sir Henry Chichley of Rosegill,
Middlesex Co., VA, Knight, and Ralph Wormeley, of the same place, Esquire, son
and heir of Ralph Wormeley, Esq., deceased, and Agatha his wife. The said
Ralph Wormeley, deceased, was possessed of a considerable estate in houses,
land, plate, jewels, goods, household stuff, horses, mares, tobacco, negroes,
English servants and other estate in the counties of York and Lancaster (now
Middlesex), and said Ralph Wormeley deceased left his estate to his wife, who
afterwards married Sir Henry Chichley; but before the marriage she settled the
estate upon her son, Ralph Wormeley, the younger, who at the time of the
marriage was under age of 21; said Chichley, in payment of the profits of the
estate which he has received, conveyed to said Ralph Wormeley, the younger,
700 acres in Middlesex and certain goods (per schedule)... (NOTE: Rest not
