‌James S. and Matilda J. were married in a religious ceremony on August 28th, 1879 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.¹   They had five sons and five daughters, named Elisha Edward, Granville Clifton, John L., Lewis Thomas, Charles K., Elkaney, Louise, Mallie Elizabeth, Martha Katherine and Mary Jane.
