After her husband's execution, Judith was offered in marriage by William I to Simon St. Liz. She refused the alliance, much to William's fury. He seized her lands and gave them to Simon St. Liz, leaving Judith to fend for herself in obsurity in the Isle of Ely and other places. St. Liz, meanwhile, turned his attentions to Judith's daughter Matilda, who became his wife.
