‌William D. and Mahalie were married in a religious ceremony about 1832 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.  They had six sons and five daughters, named Alvin, Fleming, George, James, John Hartsell, Washington, Amanda, Elizabeth, Louisa, Lunea and Martha.
