On the 1880 North Carolina Federal Cens us, W. A. (William Andrew) Knox
appears in Deweese Township, Davidson College , living with his brother S.
E. (Samuel Edward) Knox's family. He is listed as 28 years old and
working as a farm hand.
The Mecklenburg County, North Ca rolina Census, taken on June 25, 1900,
showed William A. Knox, age 48, living in Huntersville Township with
Carrie, his wife of 2 years, age 27. Five ch ildren were also listed:
Mary, age 12; Moffat, age 10; Chalmers, age 8; Boyc e, age 5; and Brice,
age 3. William's occupation was listed as farmer. Mary , Moffat, and
Chalmers were attending school.
In the early 1900's, William a nd Carrie Knox's home in Caldwell Station,
NC was the local "post office". Mail was delivered to their hom, where
Caldwell Station residents could pick it up. Carrie Knox served as the

On the 1910 North Carolina Federal Census, the family William A . and
Carrie Knox are found in Mecklenburg County, living next door to the
family of J. H. and Mary Rush. These two families included childhood
sweeth earts James Chalmers Knox and Ina Ruth Rush who wed three years
later in 1913
