Narrative

Jacob Haas was descended from a German family, one of the first to settle
in the Valley of Virginia. He lived at Dawson's Mill, about four miles
from Lynchburg. Va.; was editor of the Lynchburg Jeffersonian, a
contractor of public roads and member of the Virginia House of Delegates.
In 1834 he moved to Laporte, Indiana., where he entered large tracts of
Government land, and grew wealthy, and was also of the firm of Brown &
Haas in Michigan City. In 1837 he removed to his farm in Madison,
Indiana., where he died. p. 90 Va Cousins
