Samuel Jeaffreson was the owner of an estate in Pettistree, Suffolk,
England during the reign of Henry VIII. The supposed ancestor of Samuel
I, signed his name Joh' Geffreessune and actually was John Fitz-Geoffrey,
one of the original signers of the Provisions of Oxford, a Charter won
from Henry VIII in 1258. There is a good possibility that Samuel
Jeaffreson/Jefferson I, President Thomas Jefferson's 5th Great
grandfather, may have originally came from Wales. President Jefferson
always indicated that his Jefferson relatives originated in Wales.
President Jefferson's brother, Randolph lived on his plantation,
"Snowden" across the James River from Scottsville, VA. The plantation
had earlier been owned by the Randolphs who were from Wales and may have
named the plantation in honor of their home country of Wales. Snowden is
the highest mountain in Wales. (Info provided by Herb Barger,
