Narrative

[byrne.ftw]
! Emma and Ellis were both born in the Nueces Canyon. Emma was
born at Hackberry, Texas and Ellis was born at Vance, Texas. They
were married on the front porch of the ranch home of Emma's parents,
John and Zorah Hicks, on October 16th 1910. The ceremony was
performed by Justice of Peace, Walter Lockhart, in the presence of
Emma's family and friends of the family. Ellis, who lived at Vance,
made the trip to the Hicks ranch home, which was a few miles above
Hackberry, Texas, in a one horse buggy. Walter Lockhart also came in a
buggy. They lived practically all of their lives in Vance, except the
time they moved to Comal County. They lived there about six years,
then moved back to Vance where they lived out their married life. Emma
survived Ellis by about fifteen years. She spent some of her last
years in San Antonio with her daughters, Glyn, Lou and Jo Ann. Then
she moved to Leakey and lived with her youngest son, Kermit, until she
died. Emma and Ellis are buried in the cemetery at Vance, Texas.
