Obituary - Funeral services for Edward Raines Tate "Judge Tate", 85 was
held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, March 14, 1995, at Wooster Baptist Church,
7007 Bayway Dr., Baytown, Texas, with the Revs. Bruce Worley and Lee
Walker officiating.
Tate died on Saturday, March 11, in a local hospital.
He was born in Giddings on November 26, 1909. In 1935 he was a lawyer in
cotulla before moving to Baytown in 1937 where he went to work for Humble
Oil Corp.
He retired from Exxon (Humble) in 1972 after 35 hears of service. He was
a member of Wooster Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was a
member of the Exxon Annuitants and belonged to the Alpha and Omega
fraternity.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He was the
last of six children.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth (Jeager) Tate of Baytown, daughter
and son-in-law, Ann and Sonny Smith of Houston; grandsons, Tim Lively of
Texas City, Chris Lively of Houston; great-grandson Marcus Lively of
Houston, sister-in-law, Elner Tate of Giddings; nephews, Dr. Howard Tate
of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Milton Tate of Brenham, James Tate of Giddings,
John Tate of San Antonio and Charles Tate of Houston & New York; nieces,
Helen Hilton of Hobbs, New Mexico, Eola Nell Alspaw of Gun Barrel City
and Miriam Namken of Weslaco; and many great and great-great nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chris Lively, Tim Lively, DeWayne Yeager, James
Hallam Tate, Wesley Yeager and Cleve Ford.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Wooster Baptist Church and
the men of the church.
