William was born about 1390 in Brereton, Cheshire, England. William's father was William de Brereton and his mother was Angelia (Anyll) de Venables. His paternal grandparents were William de Brereton and Ellen de Egerton; his maternal grandparents were Hugh de Venables and Elizabeth Mobberly. He had a sister named Elizabeth. He was the older of the two children. He died before 1425.-
