Martha Ellen was born in 1851 in Deer Creek, Mercer, PA.1 Martha Ellen's father was John Cary and her mother was Elizabeth Jane Miller. Her paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Cary and Isabella Unknown. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Ebenezer Miller, Nathaniel Culbertson, William, Joseph L, John Harvey, Elias, Louisa Jane and Susanna M. She was the second youngest of the nine children.-
