Sprotta, a Bretton, 'Danish wife' of William I, "Longsword".
What is known is that she was a prisoner taken in Britany, she n ever married William, but later married a Norman named Asperleng , also having at least one son by him. That's it. This we kno w from her son, who was the primary source for the chronicler Du do of St.Quentin, so if more was known, we would probably have b een told. Anything else you see is in error or unsupported.
The most common claim you will see is that she was from Senlis , but that is because her son Richard is called "nephew" of Coun t Bernard. However, elsewhere William himself is called nephe w of Bernard, so in all probability the relationship came throug h William's mother, and not Richard's, particularly since Popp a came from a local noble family, while Sprota was a captive o f unknown origin.
