Makir (Theodericus, Dietrich), Duke of Toulouse; liv 771-793, Ju diarch of Narbonne (Septimania), md Aude, dau of Charles Marte l (171-43). Makir was the Judiarch of Narbonne, a ranking Jewis h leader. His ancestry (DFA, chart W) is one of the great lineag es of antiquity, and adds about 300 names in unbroken line to th e lineage of John of Gaunt, if it goes uncontested. However, i t can not be published in RFC because of copyright restriction s made by the owners , the Augustan Society.
HOWEVER:
Whatever may be said of the Theodoric/Makhir connection, I hav e been told that it now seems almost certain that Theodoric (Thi erry), father of St. William (d. 812), was Jewish. On the contra ry, there is no tenable evidence to suggest that William's fathe r was Jewish. I have written on this in some detail in an artic le published in the last issue of _The American Genealogist_. Na t Taylor
