Tabitha lived to the age of 92. At the time of her death, her family consisted of 12 children and spouses, 61 grandchildren and spouses, and 53 great-grand children and spouses (although some dates are missing). This was a very close-knit family and - the story goes - every Sunday saw many of the family visiting at "Grandmother Kirk's" homestead. The meetings became a tradition and continued long after her death.
An 80th birthday party for Tabitha Kirk was held at the Kirk Homestead on October 24, 1869 and this has been considered Reunion #1. Similarly, an 85th birthday party in 1874 at the homestead was considered Reunion #2. Reunion #3 was held in 1905 at "Stapleton", the home of Edwin and Anna (Kirk) Stapler in Abington Village. Then Reunion #4 was held the following year at the home of William and Elizabeth (Tyson) Johnston (Tyson Homestead), at Hillside (now Roslyn), Abington Twp. A formal Association was organized at Reunion #5 (October 11, 1911) to maintain the family bonds, preserve the records, and arrange an annual reunion.
Tabitha was #7238 in the Lukens line of descent from immigrant Jan Lucken. Therefore add 7238 to the "Kirk" number to determine position in the Lukens genealogy.
