Cerdic, King of the West Saxons, 519-534, was a Saxon earldorma n who founded a settlement on the coast of Hampshire, England, i n 495, assumed the title of King of the West Saxons in 519, an d became the ancestor of the English royal line. "A.D. 495. Thi s year came two leaders into Britain, Cerdic and Cynric, his son , with five ships....519. This year Cerdic and Cynric undertoo k the government of the West Saxons; the same year they fought w ith the Britons at a place called Charford. From that day have r eigned the children of the West Saxon kings. 530. They conquere d the isle of Wight...534. This year died Cerdic, the first kin g of the West Saxons.
