Emily Greenhill was born in 1816 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia. Emily Greenhill's father was David Greenhill Williams and her mother was Mary Epes Poythress Doswell. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Roper Williams and Catherine Greenhill; her maternal grandparents were John Doswell and Mary Elizabeth Poythress Epes. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John David, Thomas Roper, Dandridge C., Fayette Claiborne, Peter E., Virginius R., Arianna, Virginia F. and Mary C.. She died at the age of 54 on March 15th, 1870 in Nottoway Co., Virginia.-
