General Notes
Arrived in Virginia on 8 OCT 1653. His passage was paid by William Diltye of Charles City Co., VA.
He was appointed an arbiter on 15 OCT 1666 over a dispute between Adam Snale & Adam Thoroughgood regarding the building of an Anglican church.
He received a grant of land on 24 SEP 1667 on the north side of Four Mile Creek in Henrico Co., VA. At that time he owned a 400 acre tract on the Lynnhaven River in the Norfolk area, which he sold in 1672. He acquired 700 acres in the same area on 25 May 1673, granted by Sir William Berkley; this tract was sold 16 Apr 1674. His home (in the Curles area] was know as "Claytons".
His will is dated 10 Sep 1679 and recorded on 2 Aug 1680; William Randolph of Turkey Island was the executor. His property was valued at 15000 pounds of tobacco. His wife, Mary, is listed as age 30.
