• General Notes
  • The following information was obtained from Vada HAYES, Tom's great-aunt.  Information obtained May, 1997.
    
    Thomas was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, GA.  He went A.W.O.L. to get married and was placed in the brig upon his return from the honeymoon.
    
    Thomas' father had the marriage annulled, date unknown.  According to Morgan HAYES, (Olivene's Uncle) Thomas' father was a banker and Thomas also became a banker.
    
    Thomas' "rich" father bought Thomas out of the Army.  Rich per Morgan.
    
    According to Lilly CAHOON, Thomas may have been from either Alabama or Georgia.  Information obtained June, 1997.

    According to Vada I favor my father who was a blonde.
    
    Vada says Tom FRAZIER was from Waycross, GA.
    
    Ultimately some of the above information proved to be false.  Thomas Chambers FRAZIER was not a banker, nor was his father.  Thomas's father was the superintendent of Trio Mills in Forsythe, GA where Tom was born and raised.  Tom later became the assistant superintendent of the mill.
    
    According to a letter received from the National Personnel Records Office, St. Louis, MO., Tom's service/serial number was 6363937.  This letter indicated that no service record is available.  If the record ever existed, it was probably destroyed in a fire that occurred July 12, 1973 at the records office in St. Louis.  Alternative records were used to secure the service number, date and location of induction and date and location of discharge.
    
    The letter shows that Thomas enlisted into the Army in 1929 at Atlanta, Georgia. 
    
    The letter indicates that Tom was discharged from the Army September 3, 1932 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.  However, according to Vada Tom was serving in the 6th Cavalry when he married my mother in 1933.  A copy of Ward Department Form No. 370, Final Statement shows that his date of discharge was September 3, 1932.
    
    During his service he attained the rank of private, specialist 5th class while serving in HQ Troop, 6th Cavalry.
    
    March 28, 1999, I spoke with Rose Marie FRAZIER Morrison, Daughter of Thomas FRAZIER and Clara Garrett.  She described Tom as a wonderful and generous person.  She also said that he liked to drink.  He taught Rose Marie how to drive when she was 13 years old.  This enabled her to drive when Tom had been drinking.

    The following information was obtained from Jackie JACKSON and Mildred Sanders, daughters of Tom's sister, Violet.   Also included is information obtained from his adopted daughter Rose Marie Morrison.
    
    Tom's sister, Violet, helped raise him after his mother died.
    
    Jackie was aware that Tom had been married once before his marriage to Clara Garrett.  This information was  kept from Rose Marie who grew up thinking that Tom was her biological father.  In addition, Jackie was aware of Tom's service in the army.
    
    Tom liked to hunt and fish and at one time owned 13 hound dogs.  It was Rose's job to take the dogs to the creek each Sunday and bathe them.
    
    Tom did not finish high school but was considered bright.  It is believed that attended school through the 8th or 9th grade.  He taught himself algebra to use at work in the mill.
    
    He was very fastidious about his appearance and went to the barber shop every week.
    
    Tom was a heavy smoker and drinker and this probably contributed to his early death.
