John  was born on September 24th, 1855 in Galbooly, Ireland.  He died at the age of 83 on September 7th, 1939.

• General Notes

  Ran away to sea but was bought out. Ran away and enlisted as boy trumpeter and was bought out again. Married Mums: she was 'Black Protestant' and he was RC: she insisted he became Protestant. He joined Leics Regt, but transferred to Northants Regt. Later transferred to Pay Corps and became Director General of Pay Duties. Devised demobilisation plans for which he received KCMG. Never saw a shot fired in anger until he went off to France on leave to see the trenches. Known as 'Pater'
